Connie Anthes was born in 1978 and works on stolen Gadigal land in Sydney, Australia.
She holds a Masters of Fine Art (Painting) from the National Art School, Sydney and a Bachelor of Design (Visual Communication, Honours First Class) from University of Technology, Sydney and Central St Martins, London. She has exhibited in Australia, Germany, Turkiye and the USA and has been the recipient of a number of artist grants and residencies, both in Australia and abroad.
In 2015, the collaborative duo Make or Break (Bec Gallo and Connie Anthes), started working across gallery, biennale, festival and community contexts to produce a range of process-based projects that are often co-authored with the communities they intersect with. 10 years later, they have instigated more than 20 site-specific projects in Australia, Japan and Thailand that span performance, publishing, activism, sculptural installations, writing, and workshop facilitation.
Connie also co-founded Frontyard Projects in 2016, a pro-active, flexible community space for practical skills-sharing, cultural engagement and critical research. In 2019, she co-founded Palms Studios + Workshop to foster stability, affordability and community around the professional art practices of women and gender diverse artists in Sydney.
She has been a past director of Firstdraft across 2 locations, an editor of Runway Experimental Art Journal and sat on the MCA Artist’s Advisory Group.
